木板, also commonly known and referred to as "Pallets", are interactive obstacles in Dead by Daylight .
Pallets have two states: upright, and pulled down. At the start of a trial, all Pallets are in an upright position, meaning that both the Survivors and the Killer can pass through the area next to them without needing to interact. Killers are unable to interact with Pallets in this state, but Survivors have the option to pull it down and create an obstacle for the Killer, that can only be vaulted by the Survivors, which is similar to vaulting a Window .
The Killer cannot vault Pallets, but can choose to break and thus permanently destroy it by interacting with it (default: SPACE).
Breaking a Pallet displays a short animation in which the Killer will either destroy it with their foot (Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly, Huntress, Shape, Doctor, Cannibal and Nightmare) or their hand (Nurse and Hag). This will momentarily obstruct their vision as the camera will tilt downwards until the Pallet is destroyed, giving the Survivor an opportunity to hide out of sight. It also gives them the opportunity to easily blind the Killer with a Flashlight , as they are locked into the animation and can't turn their head to try and evade the blind.
The Hillbilly and The Cannibal, both wielding Chainsaws, are the only Killers with an alternative way to break a Pallet, by charging at it with their Chainsaws.
If a Killer is inside the area a Pallet will block when a Survivor pulls it down, they will be pushed back and get stunned for a short while, again obstructing their vision as their camera tilts. This will also award the Survivor a hefty amount of Bloodpoints in the Boldness category.
A Survivor in the Injured State can be grabbed by the Killer mid-vault and hoisted directly onto their shoulder by tapping the attack button (default: M1), putting them into Dying State instantly upon a drop.
The location of a Pallet or a Pallet Cluster varies with the procedural map generation and usually differs between two iterations of the same Map.
Although Pallets are procedurally generated at the start of the trial, some that are located near or inside of Landmarks have predefined locations that do not change between Map iterations.
Pallet density depends heavily on the Map and sometimes on the Realm. Maps in Realms such as Autohaven Wreckers are known for having large clusters of Pallets (usually towards the centre). While some particular Maps, such as Shelter Woods and Lampkin Lane, largely lack in them. Then some Maps in Realms like the Crotus Prenn Asylum have a randomised Pallet generation in specific areas, changing noticeably between map iterations.
Pallets are an invaluable yet limited resource due to their utility.
The Nurse avoids Pallet Stuns completely while blinking, even if the Survivor gets the points for stunning. For this reason, it is often better to not use Pallets versus The Nurse.
This is for technical reasons, as the Nurse's Blink is one giant animation from the start of her charging a Blink to her coming out of the post-Blink Fatigue. Such animations cannot be prematurely interrupted (like the Chainsaw Sprint can) and thus are unaffected by outside influences.
However, she can be stunned whilst charging a blink, and will also lose the charge on her blink.
The Wraith while cloaked can still be pallet stunned. If performed, the Wraith will have a longer animation of being stunned, and he will also become visible.
Some in-progress animations, such as Memento Moris , cannot be cancelled by Pallet Stuns.
The Enduring Perk can be used by Killers to lessen the impact of pallet stuns.
A Killer carrying a Survivor can still be stunned by pallets. If they get stunned while holding a Survivor, the Killer will drop the survivor in the injured state, giving them time to escape.
